bokehlicious weekend

Last week was a very successful GAS-week (gear acquisition syndrome) for me!

Since I jumped into film photography with my first Olympus OM-4 Ti at the end of last year, I’ve always been lusting for some special lenses that are rare to find (at least in “like new” condition). One of those high-grade lenses was definitely the ZUIKO 50mm/F1.2!

Although I already owned one of the latest copies (>#1.100.000) of the ZUIKO 50mm/F1.4, there is still something special about the F1.2 – at least there MUST have been something special, judging by the price difference between the two lenses when they were sold by Olympus in the late 1980’s.

That’s why I kept watching eBay & Co. the whole year, and finally won a NEW 50mm/F1.2 last week…

Since many photographers call OM-cameras “the Leica of Japan”, this lens is definitely their “Noctilux”. It’s a fat barrel in comparsion to its little 50mm-brothers (F1.4 & F1.8), but still compact and handy compared to modern DSLR-lenses like the Canon EF 50mm/F1.2L USM. So it actually gives a nice package mounted to my OM-4 Ti and I enjoyed shooting it on a day trip we did on saturday.

To see how good the “ZUIKOlux” performs, I forced myself to shoot it wide open all the day (used a Fujichrome Velvia 50, of course), but since F1.2 @50mm on a FullFrame-Camera gives an unusual shallow depth of field, it was kind of tricky to get the focus accurately. So please excuse the frames where I might have missed the focus, I’m still trying to get used to it.

F1.2 doesn’t leave much room for mistakes…or big subjects

no bokeh here, sorry! 😦

Dani in a cute little store with thousands of things men won’t ever buy/need

but I found something to play with in there…

even at a distance of 5-6 meter this lens is still capable of highlighting something out of the fore- and background

an agent waiting for his informant?

yeah, I just HAD TO take this shot – I think at least mom will like it!

BAD exposure, I know, but the light was harsh and I didn’t have time to meter more accurate by locking a spot or two

self purpose bokeh, sorry, but the lens is new and who doesn’t play around with new toys?

Now there are only 2 more dream-lenses on my OM wish-list…
